Research and Teaching

The research team of the Città di Roma Anesthesia Department was constituted in the Eighties at Fatebenefratelli Hospital, Rome. Since then, the research group in obstetric analgesia and anesthesia has been well established.
The Anesthesia department is affiliated with the Statistics Department of the University of Rome "La Sapienza" and with the School of Anesthesiology -  Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care of University " La Sapienza" Rome.

The main research topics of the group are new techniques for neuraxial labor analgesia (PIEB), pharmacodynamics of epidural and spinal local anesthetics and opioids, sensorial and cognitive aspects of labor pain, clinical evaluation of regional blocks, regional anesthesia and postoperative analgesia for cesarean section.

The Anesthesia Department is one of the reference centers in Italy for obstetric anesthesia and organizes national refresher courses every year.
The department is also a training center of the European Society of Anaesthesiology Fellowship Programme and of the Obstetric Anaesthetists' Association Overseas Fellowship
